Tom Brake Lib Dem MP for Carshalton and Wallington emailed us to say he’d recently attended a Queen’s Awards event in his constituency; we asked if he’d like to be our guest blogger this week.
As Member of Parliament for Carshalton and Wallington I am always looking for opportunities to promote growth and success in local business.
I was delighted to be invited to join the celebrations at Penta Consulting Ltd last month, in recognition of their Queen’s Award for Enterprise in the International Trade category. Founded in 1998 (when they started working in a basement) and employing 88 staff, Penta Consulting won their Award for outstanding export performance over the past three years.
Also in attendance was Olympic hero David Weir who Penta Consulting are proud to sponsor (Weir Archer Academy).
I met Paul Clark their CEO who informed me that he put their success down to their clear understanding of what their clients need, along with their in-depth technical knowledge.
The crux of their business is providing technical staffing solutions for the global telecommunications sector. They have achieved this using an export marketing strategy which reaches 120 countries and 90% of the global market. In order to overcome restrictive trade barriers, they opened offices in specific countries and entered into strategic partnerships with local companies and personnel.
I would like to take this opportunity to encourage successful UK businesses (particularly in the Carshalton and Wallington area!) to consider entering for a Queen’s Award for Enterprise. It is not just for the ‘giants’ – it’s open to all UK-based companies, employing 2 or more people, with a minimum two or three year successful track record. If you’re an exporter, then it is probably the International Trade category that will interest you, but there’s also two other categories - ‘Innovation’ and ‘Sustainable Development’ - which are open to companies who do or do not export – and if you’re an innovative exporter, you can go for both!
It meant a lot to everyone at Penta Consulting – why not put your business forward this year?
