Kieran and I went on a mini tour of Scotland earlier this week, filming Queen’s Awards winners past and present for the YouTube channel. Our in-depth tour diaries will feature in the blog during the next few weeks but, as a taster of what’s to come, this is where our travels took us…
Our first stop on Monday was Innis & Gunn, a 2 times Queen’s Award winning brewer based in Edinburgh. We met with MD Dougal Sharp who had lots of positive things to say about winning the Award. He was particularly delighted that the brewer’s senior management, as well as the president of their importer in Canada, got the opportunity to meet The Queen at the winners’ Royal reception.
We then ventured out to 3 times Queen’s Awards winner, the Scottish Seabird Centre in North Berwick, where we met CEO Tom Brock. We interviewed Tom against a beautiful coastal backdrop, just as the sun was setting in the distance. Tom was clearly thrilled with the Queen’s Award win – he showed us around the incredible interactive facilities and told us how the Centre had been publicising its win.
On Tuesday morning we met with the very lovely Elaine Rodgerand AlanBusby from the Glasgow Chambers of Commerce to talk about how we can work together to promote both the Queen’s Awards and the Glasgow Business Awards. It looks like there are some great events coming up in the next few months where we can encourage Scottish businesses to get some well-deserved recognition for their successes.
We then headed out to meet Catherine Dean and Karen Marshall from Bridge of Weir Leather, who have now won 4 Queen’s Awards. Their premises were really impressive, spanning several buildings which are home to a seemingly endless number of machines, each with a critical role in producing the leather. Catherine’s tour was excellent, allowing us to see just what’s involved in the leather production and how hard the staff work on each individual process.
Kieran and I thoroughly enjoyed our time in Scotland and we’re looking forward to our visits to other winners around the country over the next few months. If you’d like to help us promote The Queen’s Awards (and your business) on our YouTube channel, please send us an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org.
