Tomorrow is my last day with The Queen’s Awards for Enterprise team and I will be very sorry to say goodbye.
I’ve had a great year working on The Queen’s Awards. The team are knowledgeable and professional: I challenge you to ask them a question they can’t answer - so long as it’s about the Awards, of course! We’ve had some tough times, including the sudden and unexpected death of one of our team, Danny, at the end of last summer which left a big gap, but we now have two new team members, Kat and Sean, who bring loads of experience and enthusiasm with them.
The thing I’ve most enjoyed, though, is meeting and working with our winners who represent some of the best companies in the UK. The stories they tell are inspirational – of one person who has a great idea and is brave enough to develop it into an Award-winning product; companies who are as proud of their working practices as they are of their products; and others who have proved the UK is still a great exporting nation. It’s good to hear these success stories to set against the doom and gloom we hear on the news.
The highlight of my year was of course the Reception with HM The Queen at Buckingham Palace. By chance Linda (the Queen’s Awards Secretary) and I were lucky enough to meet The Queen as she passed among the guests – I may not get that chance again and I envy this year’s winners attending the event.
If you want to be part of the continuing good news story of The Queen’s Awards for Enterprise and be recognised for your success you have until the end of September to submit your entry. Our winners tell us it’s well worth it.
I’m now joining the business world by becoming a freelance communications and marketing specialist – and hoping one day to go to Buckingham Palace as an Award winner!
