The UK’s leading microbiological testing and regulatory specialist, MSL Solution Providers, is delighted to be awarded with the prestigious Queen’s Award for Enterprise for International Trade.
Founded in 2001, the company was established primarily for the cosmetics, personal care, and household cleansing markets, which are still at the core of its business today. Over the past 20 years, the company has grown to a team of 32 people, who own 51% of the company following its move to an employee ownership model in 2019.
Commended specifically for its outstanding short-term growth, just three years ago, it was servicing 25 countries. Today, roughly half of its business comes from export sales to approximately 60 countries.
Carolyn Burney, Managing Director, shares with us what this honour means to them.
As the UK’s most prestigious business award, with a globally recognised royal seal of approval, The Queen’s Award for Enterprise is an honour we have long coveted. Last year, we not only celebrated our 20th anniversary, but also earned the credentials to enter these esteemed awards.
Even though we are a relatively small business, we have achieved incredible success, particularly over the past three years with our international work. The export side of our business was introduced ten years ago when the EU cosmetic regulation came into force (2012) and has grown phenomenally for both our regulatory and testing services. We now have customers in over 20 countries, spread over six continents and numerous time zones. We firmly believe geographical boundaries offer no constraint and can benefit all our clients, large or small, who are able to access our extensive knowledge base and holistic approach.
We are absolutely thrilled to have been recognised by Her Majesty The Queen. Being recognised with The Queen’s Award for Enterprise, for International Trade is a huge achievement and is testament to the hard work, passion, and commitment of the whole team. It is a fantastic way to highlight the valuable contribution they make to the company, especially after what has been a very intense, crazy couple of years.

We’ve seen a massive increase in the demand for work, particularly for virology and biocide testing, to meet the demand during the height of the pandemic. However, seeing the sustained growth of the company and the development opportunities that have arisen from it, has made it all worthwhile. The Queen’s Award is a great way to celebrate all of our hard work as a company.
