At Magnetic North Travel, we create bespoke holidays to the Nordic Countries and Canada. Usually our clients approach us with a vague idea, e.g. see the Northern Lights, which we then transform into a thoughtful, often tailor-made itinerary. Our holidays ranging from romantic to soft adventures could take shape in a Northern Lights honeymoon, a multi-day dog-sledding adventure, a family hiking holiday or an expedition cruise.

Since Magnetic North Travel’s foundation in 2009 we have been servicing clients from all over the world. In fact, our first client travelling from Australia has been an early sign for the international growth to come. As a business born global we began to wonder how Magnetic North Travel’s international strategy compared to other UK businesses. After seeing international clients exceed the number of UK travellers for the first time in 2017, we decided to apply for the Queen’s Awards for Enterprise. Seeing that both small businesses and enterprises had been rewarded with the Queen’s Awards for Enterprise in previous years, showed that results were more meaningful than size.

The Queen’s Award for Enterprise being a well-known, internationally recognised accolade consolidated our decision to apply. Actually winning the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade felt like a fantastic reward, increasing Magnetic North Travel’s recognition among other businesses, our ability to reach out to new partners and ultimately in building relationships with our clients from all over the world. In the long-run, we hope that the Queen’s Award for Enterprise, as a trusted globally recognised brand will build loyalty and drive international expansion.

Laura Greenman, founder of Magnetic North Travel:

Winning a Queen’s Award is fantastic recognition for the hard work of the whole team here at Magnetic North Travel. We are all absolutely thrilled that our success has received such a high accolade.

For the team travelling to Buckingham Palace was certainly a highlight. Founder Laura Greenman and longest-serving employee Angela Hewitt returned from the award ceremony, feeling inspired and thrilled about their meeting with the other award winners and, of course, Prince Charles. The rest of the team was equally excited to hear about the day at the palace.

Laura Greenman, founder of Magnetic North Travel:

We have a dedicated team that works tirelessly to provide the best holiday experiences possible for those who travel with us. The team uses its expertise and in-depth destination knowledge to create tailor-made holidays that are truly unique for our customers – and our use of technology means we can be responsive to customer queries from around the world at times that suit our potential clients rather than ourselves.

Applying for a Queen’s Award may feel like a long shot, especially for businesses of a smaller size. Still the winners spanning across all industries, all sizes and with a wide range of approaches stand testimony to the fair standards imposed by the Queen’s Awards team.
