Will Tyler.

Hello there, I am Will Tyler, Chief Executive at Octink.

I have been a judge on the Sustainable Development panel for the last 4 years and look forward to the process. The whole basis of the award is the continual striving to be better, innovative thinking ends with creative solutions. The award offers up a prestigious acknowledgement to those who believe that business can work for the greater good. There can be little doubt about the level of publicity and kudos that this award offers.

Every company that has made the grade looks on the award as more than just an achievement but, an admired acknowledgment of the efforts the business makes in both their local and often wider community. This is achieved while driving the organisation forward financially.

Anecdotal evidence supports the belief that sustainability based exercises add far more to both the employees and customers that we are ever able to see reading the entries. It almost becomes a barometer for a balanced organisation with profitability on one side and community engagement on the other.

I am often asked if the Queen's award is for larger companies. This is absolutely not the case as the larger percentage of organisations judges fit within the SME sector. It may surprise you to know that a number of awards are made to very small businesses as a result of the disproportionate impact they make. In many ways it is simpler for a small organisation to have a larger overall impact than a multinational as we look at it in terms of the relative scale to the size of the organisation. One aspect that is consist to all winners that they are leading their industries in terms of the sustainable agenda, I think sometimes many companies just do not realise how good they are.

If you feel that your company deserves to be recognised, take the time to put an application in. The hard work is most likely already done, all that remains is to fill in the form...
